I had a truly wonderful day today because i got to pick up my son who has been away on a 7th grade class trip this week.

I had not heard from him since I said good bye to him Monday morning. He didn't answer my messages I left on his cell. Everyone told me I should not worry because that is what boys do when they go on a trip but I was a bit nervous.

Turned out he DID HAVE an amazing time in that forest camp. They went there to help planting young tree plants and clean up the forest. They were a great team and worked a lot. Everybody got along well and he thinks his class teacher is even cooler than he already thought he is.

So - I am really glad all went so well - there was no reason to be nervous. What a great experience for the kids. (He didn't even see my messages...)

And I could have saved the money on the shoes I bought to distract me while waiting for his bus to arrive

(But I like them a lot - I bought the same pair in grey two years ago and have been wearing them all the time)

Back at home we had cake to celebrate, carefully handled (and decontaminated) the forest clothes and ate the first spring herbs.

Then the mail came and I found out that one of my fabric yarn necklaces is part of the new DaWanda Summer Lovebook!

I worked a bit on a new DIY, got inspired by a Moroccan lantern, ate some Mangostane and hopefully will go out for a little walk later because the sun is shining today.

I am truly thankful for this great day.

...Germanys northernmost island SYLT hasn't changed too much.

And of course that is a good thing.

A few more houses and shops but basically it is still how I remember it a quarter of a century ago when we came here as a young couple to camp and play Volleyball during summer.

The beaches are absolutely beautiful and those ever rolling waves will always be there to be enjoyed. It's so nice to be at the ocean!

Warming Pony-Love

Unfortunately it is already time again to say Good Bye to Ponyland Norddeich.

The temperature is still below zero but our hearts are filled with lots of warming love for and from the ponies.

They are such wonderful beings.

A week full of fun, learning, experiences and thorough practice in teamwork, mindfulness, empathy, attention, discipline and respect = horseback riding

went by much too fast...

We will drive up a little further north to spent a few more days on Germanys northernmost island and I will get back to you from there tomorrow.

I Did It!

Is there something you are thinking about to try out for the first time?

Or something you did or had long time ago and it is still a good memory in your head?

You should definitely do or get it (again)!

Maybe it is a habit, or a friend you haven't seen for quite a while, a place you used to frequent, food you once ate all the time, family traditions you have loved so much or a sport you did when you were a child.

The latter is the one I did yesterday.

YES!!! I got on that horse and is was WONDERFUL.

People told me it is like riding a bike - you still know what to do - but I really wasn't sure at first.

But after a few minutes I indeed felt home again!

I do some sports but horseback riding is so different from all I do because there is this sweet partner.

And that means you have to focus. And I really like that fact.

I had to fully concentrate on what we two were doing because when I normally work out I usually think of the thousand things I have to do once I am done.

Unfortunately "Vicki" had an ouchy yesterday (not my fault!!!) and my new partner will be Haflinger "Morris".

He is even prettier than Vicki (sorry Vick!) with its long long mane.

Hope I can do some more pictures today - It snowed AGAIN all night up here at the North Sea in Germany...

This time my children talked me into riding a horse MYSELF! WAHHHHHH...

I will let you know, if that is really going to happen:)

At least i bought second hand riding pants and boots...

Wish me luck please - last time I have been on a horse is more than 30!!! years ago.

But I love them...hope, that counts.

Why We Are Not Moving Into This Apartment

Because it is already taken by my dear friend!

She is also moving from a small country village back to the city just as we plan to do, too.

Soon!

So far no decision has been made regarding this cool loft we looked at recently.

But keep your fingers crossed for us...

Meanwhile please take a look at this absolutely adorable apartment my friend just signed a lease on.

Just like the building we looked at, this house is also under special protection because of its old age and its structure and design - means it can't be changed too much.

It is a beautiful BLACK villa in a very nice and quiet neighborhood. (It looks grayish here on my picture but in reality the effect is black).

Throughout history it had always been painted black outside.

It is owned by a woman who takes the greatest care to preserve or restore and respect the characteristics of this house.

She did an amazing job on that house so far.

For example she figured out the original wall coat and color that was used centuries ago. It is mineral based and the color is a beautiful soft pink!

What a coincidence because soft powdery pinks anyway just made their way back into interior these days

The build-in cabinets are original and the bathroom is made of stone.

And look at the window knobs - the owner had them be redone and they are made of horn - just like the original ones were. Same with the door knobs. They are carved out of ebony...

Have you ever seen so much love for the detail and history?

I can't wait to see it decorated and furnished...

.. is a new family comedy with Billy Crystal, Marisa Tomei and Bette Midler among others, and will release in German theaters on February 28th.

Except for some Sonnentor give away posts in 2011 and 2012 I have never done a sponsored post here on the blog. So this is a first for me.

But as I really had a good laugh while I watched this trailer I thought you would enjoy it as well. I actually felt quite at home with the clip, but let me describe it to you first:

Comedy star and comedian Billy Crystal leads a story of the grandparents Artie and Diane, who agreed to babysit their grandchildren for a while. Really a no brainer, if not for the large gap in gene ratios: with her lovable but old-fashioned education, they take on the hectic and playful nature of the children who turn their lives literally on their heads. While making a lot of fun of itself the film plays with the typical quirks of generations, to then come to the conclusion: family is best after all! Next to Billy Crystal Bette Midler, Marisa Tomei and Tom Everett Scott are starring.

As some of you know, I have two children myself. They are already nine and thirteen years old. When they were young I tried really hard to keep them away from sugary foods, fast food, television, computer etc. I think that's actually quite normal, because you want to protect them. Only can this ambition quickly slip into an extreme of worrying too much. Suddenly a harmless Lolly - often offered to children everywhere - becomes a dangerous hazard in your well-meaning eyes. Back then I thought nobody has a clue but me. Only I knew what was best for my children. That an UNHAPPILY chewed big pile of vegetables everyday probably does more harm than good - that idea would have never occurred to me.

Babysitters, grandparents and even my husband - the father of my children - were watched skeptical by me. What a stressful time made up by myself...

As long as children are small, is is easy to keep them "on your little island" but the older they get the more they become a part of our colorful and diverse community and that is a good thing because it made me realize that we all have a live to life and there is no such thing than the "right" way. Of course parents should never stop striving to raise their children as best as they can possible do but you definitely can't buy health, wellbeing and happiness for them because you provide plenty of bags of raw sprouts and wooden blocks

We still eat mostly organic foods in our family but it's important to stay relaxed and not lose sight of the even more important things in life.

My most important lesson about parenting after all these years is : have CONFIDENCE! In the children and in live generally.

With all the good things that we do with and for our children, a seed is planted, and when time is right and a little rain water had come, that seed will prosper into a beautiful flourishing life.

Next to my Family + Pets , Job, time for DIY's and a bit of Happiness-Theory it's mostly the beauty and aesthetic I found in flowers, trees and natural landscapes which presents true happiness for me.

And being able to capture and preserve all this Happiness with my camera makes me really really happy! :)
