Sunstone

There couldn't be a prettier name for this gemstone than "Sunstone"!

Tiny tyny sparkly light spots like hundreds of little mini suns are all over the stone.

So cheerful and summery...

Can you see them? It's not easy to capture them on a photo.

I looked up the healing properties of the Sunstone and here is, what I found:

"The Sunstone is a 'light-bearer' and shines - like the sun itself - right into the heart.

It is being worshiped for protection since ancient times. The Greek dedicated the Sunstone to Helios, the sun god - to protect earth.

As a light-bearer the gemstone brings joy to life, alleviates depression and fear and promotes optimism. It energizes and evokes enthusiasm."

Leather bracelets with gold pleated symbols. The size of the cross is about 8x8mm and the diameter of the round shape is about 7mm.

All bracelets have a really nice S-hook closure which will allow you to put the bracelet on and off by yourself

HAHA - good one - HOW???

It rained the entire weekend over here in northern Germany.

So, today I really long for bright summery colors...

I recently got asked this question for the description of one of my long necklaces over at Dawanda's and i thought this might be interesting for some to you too:

"What does different beads mean? Wood? Plastic? Glass? What is precious on this necklace? Besides the silver? Nice necklace...BUT, what justifies the price?"

My answer:

"All metal parts of this necklace - the large flower (4cm diameter), the pendants etc are handmade by myself of 999 silver and are rose gold-plated with the thickest coat possible (20 milliem). That together is already quite a material value.

Then I searched for and added expensive antique african beads to the necklace. Also tiny turquoise beads are more expensive than a bit larger ones because it is more difficult to drill the holes.The other beads are made of wood, Howlith, glass and Agate.

All the material plus my working hours to manufacture and design the necklace result in the end price. Hope that answers your question."

Crochet - Bangle

Save the ribbons!

For a fun and sparkly New Year's Eve Bling Bling.

All you need is about 8-9 meters of gold or silver ribbon or cord, a crochet hook size 10mm or 12mm and a few minutes.

Chain about 16 to 20 (depends on the thickness of the ribbon and the size of your wrist and hand) and join with a slip stitch.

1st round:

slip stitch

2nd round:

slip stitch in back loops only

3rd round:

again slip stitch in back loops only but skip along the round two stitches to create a nice arch.

Knot endings.

Pull and push gently to form a nice bangle.

e Voilá - PARTY!!!

What a wonderful idea!

Almost 300 bloggers participated in a gift exchange.

And look what i got!

Isn't that a super cute little bracelet? I LOVE it!!!! And the nail polish has a beautiful wintery color - there were also two tiny stamps.

I can't wait to make little silver pendants with them...

My partner for this fun event that was organized by LiebeleiBlogwichteln was Zoe von Golden&Pink and I send her a BIG kiss and a BIG hug for such nice presents.

It is a really wonderful and uplifting feeling to know, a stranger has put much thought into picking something special to make you happy.

And of course I was more than happy to do the same for Zoe.

And of course it had to be pink and golden...

But why on earth did I then sent her a SILVER colored bracelet and necklace...

I can't say...must be some sort of Christmas blindness...

And I really like that because i enjoy taking pictures very much.

Right now I experiment with an opaque glass and flashes to isolate the object from the background.

Very different from shooting with natural light which is my favorite setting...

Are you a pro when it comes to Aperture, Iso, exposure time...???

You are probably waiting for the announcement of the leather bracelet (see tutorial here) winners..,

Well - here is what happened. I was waiting for Jette to come home from horse camp to draw the winners because i really don't like to draw them myself. It gives me a hard time because I always feel sorry for all the wonderful participants who might not win THIS time...

But Jette was so exhausted after her week long fun camp that she only managed to take a bath and then she fell into o deep long sleep...

So - we drew the winners this morning!

My long time friend Heidi who I met in Santa Barbara and who is living in Boulder Colorado with her family now, made these beautiful Chan Luu inspired bracelets. I'm totaly touched by so much generosity because these kind of bracelets are quite time and material consuming to make. Heidi - I LOVE THEM!!! Thousand thanks! The color combination is so pretty! Leather Bracelet Tutorial With A Little Trick

Do you like leather bracelets as much as I do?

I love them. You might have guessed that if you have seen this picture of me.

The more around my wrists the better...

There is just on little part I don't like too much and that is the closure. I haven't found or made one I really liked so far. And bracelets like to turn around and around - so - you have to like the closure too, because you will see it at times...

Even a sliding knot leaves me indecisive because of those dangling endings on both sides.

I like a simple knot best - I actually knot them secure right around my wrist and don't take them off at all for periods of time. They shower and bath with me, take ocean dips and do a lot household chores and they look better and better while they age...

But not everyone likes it that way. Here is a little trick to avoid a closure but still be able to easily slide a leather bracelet of your hand: Add a little piece of elastic to your design.

Here is what you need and I got all these supplies at my local craftstore:

1.5mm leather string, elastic floss for beading, a big eye needle, 1-2 jump rings (best if you can get close ones), some beads you like, pliers, some not too small crimping beads and a kind of middle piece (optional!).

If you are going to use a sort of charm (the above floral pieces I'm going to use in these pictures are originally intended for those interchangeable ring systems, but i liked the design) start by threading your elastic thru that piece. If you don't use one, use a jump ring instead.

Then string a crimping bead on your doubled elastic. Add the beads and close with another crimping bead. Add a jump ring and go back thru the crimping bead. That might be a bit tight and difficult but it will work. Pull gently. Crimp the two beads on both ends making sure to not pull the elastic too much because you want to be able to easily stretch it over your hand. Cut the left over elastic.

Then add your leather string and tie with a simple knot. Please ask, if you have any questions or if there is anything unclear in my description.

For the second bracelet I simply used the crimping beads for stringing because they always come in quite large quantities...
