It is a foggy and grey Sunday here today - perfect for relaxing...

I found this grey washed linen bedding at Merci's (here is a post about the shop and its philosophy)- a wonderful shop we stopped by last year when we went to Maison&Object in Paris.

Yesterday I went to Ambiente in Frankfurt and discovered many fun things there as well which I will share with you in upcoming posts.

Sweet Summer

How are you doing? Are you enjoying summer's bounties?

Looks like this fabric yarn i showed you the last couple weeks will become my special summer project. The company that sells it was wondering if I would be interested in a bag full of left overs and remains of this material. In exchange I would share my creative ideas with them. Well - since I love to share creative ideas anyway I did not say no. Plus - I love surprises - so I hauled the heavy blue plastic surprise bag inside and excitedly opened it to see, what colors I got.

Mostly black and white and a few little scraps of beautiful soft prints. How wonderful because I really like the scandinavian style of black and whites with natural wood. So I had ideas popping up immediately: The first I am showing you today is a small but long crocheted seat cushion for a small bench. There is a special outdoor furniture set called "Biergartengarnitur" in Germany: it will cover the bench of that classic German beer garden set - an easy way to seat a crowd.

I crocheted the simplest pattern of a granny square and just like a true granny blanket these squares crocheted together can grow in any direction, i.e. 8 of them make a nice little rug you could take out to the doorsteps to watch the sun set.

This is one of my favorite childhood memories: Sitting on the front steps of the house watching garden and street winding down and getting quiet for the night while the birds sing their evening songs...

So sweet...

Dreamhouse

This is the dream house I was talking about in one of my previous posts.

Unfortunately it's rented out by a media buisness right now...

But those kind of facts CAN change, right? RIGHT???

Destiny somewhat knows mercy, right?

Two years ago the owner was desperately looking for new tenants but nobody wanted it. Can you belief that? I wish, I would have known...

The house is beautifully located in a quiet little park close to the center of the city.

Some of my girlfriends find the location a bit strange, but I think it's magical.

I visit the house once a week and never ever had an odd feeling.

I was even inside once for a quick visit - unfortunately without camera. The rooms were gorgeously flooded with natural light thru these lovely windows....

Oh - please PLEASE - if you have any spare energy then please help manifesting this dream for us. Just imagine all the great interior pictures I could take then and post here on the blog!!!

You want to see the inside of this house, too, right?

Window Weirdness

I think, we are quite suspicious for many villagers here in the remote country side of Germany.

We both work out of a home office and that's - let's say it nicely - a bit 'unusual' because people around here have an 8-5 job.

That's what you do if you are 'normal' and having a REAL job!!!

In addition we are often gone for weeks in a row during breaks. And we have no blinds. That's - 'unusual'...

Indeed somebody anonymously reported me to the tax office questioning my income tax!

Tsk Tsk Tsk ...

If they would only suspect that we - in addition to the daily working hours - even spent most evenings or night hours at the computer or workshop...

Anyway - but now I blew it completely:

I doodled ON my windows!!!

Permanent Marker DIY

Would you like to do something really forbidden?

Yes?

Then grab a permanent marker and draw ONTO - for example - a seat cushion!

Yes - your childhood desires are finally heard!

It might only work on cotton and you should protect the backside of your work with slipping a plastic bag between the layers of your piece so the colors won't bleed through to the back. I just left the foam inside and it worked fine.

After you are done drawing, sprinkle about 10 drops ( depends on the size of your design - I used a lot more for the large "flower") rubbing alcohol onto the middle of your finished design and watch the magic evolving and spreading right before your eyes. Let dry and iron or put in a dryer to heat set the colors.

Incredible fun and super easy. I just drew a very simple design but you can experiment with different shapes and colors.

I LOVE to peek into somebody else's living room for inspiration! What colors do they use, what furniture, decoration and style do they admire...

The living-community "SoLebIch" is a versatile and colorful interactive online magazine about living itself - but also gives me the chance to peek . Members of the free-of-charge community can post pictures and stories about their own homes, ask questions and exchange tips and advice.

To celebrate their recent shop opening, they invited bloggers to put together a wish-list with five items chosen from their wonderful pre-selected design collection - and of course I was happy to oblige!

To enjoy summers glory even more I went for the outdoorsy beauties: Oh how I wish to rest on that sun lounger under that spacious umbrella right now! The colorful beanbag can hold my book during frequent little naps I'm planning on and also instantly puts me in a good mood with it's fun colors even when the sun hides behind the clouds; the pink basket keeps treasures to make my day just perfect. And then?

Then I will do nothing but watch the pink fish dancing in the wind... Ahhhh...

Flower Nails

For Christmas I needed a really fat nail - for the tree.

Where every other tree has a nice thinning tip, our version of a tree had a trunk-ish branch of considerable girth.

I felt sorry.

For the tree.

Because of that it actually became our christmas tree - despite its - uhhm - handicap. In my time before motherhood an inconceivable notion of sentimentality - it was either: "do or die" or "kill or cure". Now, after years of motherhood: one mellows out a lot...Does that sound familiar to you?

So I was all: "awww" - and this tree became our tree. The fat nail from the local country store was rammed as a replacement tip and was the perfect pin for a big star made of willow. It looked great. Indeed awesome. I was delighted and impressed - especially by that big nail.

Now wouldn't that kind of nail also make a great holder for my necklaces? Pimped with color, Washi-tape and crocheted copper wire flower the nail and his friends are now spreading glee and joy amongst my favorites.

I only had copper wire, a remnant of another project, yet this would also work with brass or silver wire. It's a bit unusual at first to crochet with stiff wire but you will quickly get the hang of it. I recommend getting familiar with the concept of crocheting a flower and then go with the flow while crocheting one with the wire - meaning it's not too important to completely stick to the pattern and worry about every stitch because you anyway will be able to bend the flower nicely into shape after you are done.

Make the beginning inner circle of the flower really small so it will later slip tightly onto the nail and stays in place. The intertubes are full of how-to's (here and here) for crocheted flowers. I think, they actually even sell soft wire for knitting or crocheting in your local craft store these days. And of course you could also use an other exotic material for this idea: wool! If you want to leave smaller marks on your wall use thinner but shorter roofing nails. They have nice wide heads.

Washi Tape Pedicure

I had so much fun today giving my eight year old daughter a Washi-Tape pedicure, that I had to show you some pictures of it!

They even survived a long holiday walk in the fields and a shower afterwards...

Chocolate Bread With Chili Cheese - Post Aus Meiner Küche

"Post aus meiner Küche" is a great event where - this time - chocolate creations are being shipped throughout the country this week. I chose to do a Raspberry - Hibiscus - Chocolate spread and a Cocoa - Baguette for Martina from Mathilda-Kuchen im Glas, my partner in crime.

To make up for my less then stellar cooking skills I figured to stick with simple recipes, but exquisite ingredients:

Maracaibo Classico 65% - WOW - doesn't that sound magical??? Found it Here ...

250 gr Raspberry (fresh or frozen)

200 gr Maracaibo Classico

3 EL Hibiscus leaves

50 gr Cane sugar

1/2 TL old Aceto Balsamico (next time, I would increase that amount)

Crush the leaves. Gently cook Raspberrys, sugar and the crushed Hibiscus for 2 min. Strain through a sieve and add chocolate and balsamico. Stir until chocolate is melted. The warmth of the berry sirup should be sufficient to melt the chocolate - if not, fill another bowl with warm water (not too hot!) for a water bath.

Fill! Cool! Enjoy! (I licked out the bowl - D I V I N E...)

The receipt worked very well - I only worry that the spread might be not soft enough since the berry's didn't produce a lot juice... M A R T I N A...bear with me, please...

To accompany the spread I wanted to bake a cocoa-bread baguette style. I searched the net and surprisingly it wasn't easy to find a recipe which didn't turn out a cake-like (instead of my desired baguette-like) chocolate bread.

This one is close to what I dreamt of:

150 gr flour

150 ml warm water

10 gr yeast (I used a third of a fresh block)

mix and let sit for 30 min

Then add:

350 gr flour

1 tsp salt

70 gr sugar (I used less...)

50 gr cocoa (I used more...)

70 gr soft butter (I used olive oil instead - remember: baguette-style...)

ca. 175 ml warm water

mix into pre-dough, knead well, let it rest for another half hour. Form two breads and put them on a greased sheet. Let it raise for 1 hour, wet the surface slightly and bake ca. 35 min at 175 degrees.

We instantly savored the still warm cocoa bread with butter - and - really nifty - topped it with Chili cheese! Y U M M Y !!!

I had so much fun writing words on my linen cases the other day that I really wanted to try out stenciling some more motivs.

And with easter around the corner...

...I let bunnys hopped onto my pillows!

I got the linens here and the stencils here - the fabric markers came from a crafts store around the corner...

Upcycle your beads

Do you have beads you are not wearing any more?

Maybe to old, too heavy, wrong color, ... ?

Well - I had about three longer strands of those - and some left over chalk board paint.

The paint worked really well because it's creamy and thick and stayed nicely on the beads with just one quick coating. And it dries quickly, too.

After drying I threaded them on wire and bended the string into a word.

Nails and hammer - Done!
