Weekend - Sun - Spring

...and the new german issue of Sweet Paul Magazine in my mail box.

It couldn't get any better!!!

Gorgeous food styling, fun DIY's and lovely people to meet.

I especially love the cake recipes and a beautiful story about violets by my favorite german stylist Dietlind Wolf.

If you are not already familiar with her work please visit her site - it is absolutely stunning!

And I really liked Paul's color-salat-story. It is amazing what colorful vegetables and fruits nature provides for us to play with...

Aren't those paper wax flowers cute? I will definitely try to Diy some too.There is a full tutorial in the magazine.

Never seen before: Paper landscapes in size 1:100!!! from japanese artist Kami No Kousakujo and "air-vases" cut from one paper sheet.

Aren't those absolutely amazing?

Both products are available at SHU SHU in Munich.

The vase Heidi Klum just bought recently... available here.

And Style Green wall art made from real prepared plants. NO care required!!!

I especially liked these mossy pictograms :)

Again also from Japan, beautiful simple and esthetic KAMI tableware (available here) made of wood coated with urethan.

Cranes cranes EVERYWHWERE! - Not only at the japanese booths.

Pretty fire-pralines for lighting a sweet fire

And finally I know a place where i can get the new "Casa"(here) washi-tape.

Frohstoff, located in Hamburg, creates beautiful and unique handmade products from fabric and felt.

Their specialty is hand sreen printing with eco-conscious paints on high quality materials.

I absolutely love their colors and cool motifs! So special and very esthetic.

This neon bunny is so cute - unfortunately my I-phone pictures are not really true to the real neon color...

Frohstoff also offers to manufacture special orders and individual pieces so you could create and have your very own sreen-printed design!

Or you could attend Workshops in Hamburg and learn how to make something nice yourself.

Good to know - in case we finally find our new appartement...

Ambiente13 - Part 1 - Baobab

Off we go - today I will take you to Frankfurt to visit the Ambiente - one of the largest consumer-goods exhibitions.

I typically go there to get my materials for my jewelry and when I am done with that I like to wander around checking out what's new and exciting in the field of interior and design.

Of course I always visit the large brands but I equally like to discover small and unique labels.

Like Baobab from beautiful France. They have been in business since 1998 and I had heard about them before but hadn't seen a lot of their products yet.

They are located in La Rochelle at the atlantic coast! [Waaahhh - I spent my very first vacation without parents there when i was fourteen - together with my girlfriends. I can't imagine that I will allow my daughter to go in about four years...]

I really like their original pattern and color combinations and all the lovely little details on their products. Expressive and unusual in a very good way.

Please take a look:

The young French sales-Mademoiselles were so nice and friendly and had the cutest accent ever - I really appreciated their fun attitude because it is not an easy task to be at the fair all day long meeting and greeting tons of people. Real fair-heroes...

I exactly know how they feel at the end of the day because I've been an exhibitor with my own booth at the Ambiente for many years myself.

Knitted Blanket 1

Same location as last week...

I also took this beautiful wool throw from Zilalila to the field to be photographed when we shoot the towel.

Zilalila is an entrepreneurial "Two women business" from the Netherlands with a Fair Trade Philosophy.

Their website is really nice so please stop by,if you like...

I'm usually pretty spontaneous in getting my blog pictures done.

It goes like this: (Picture my husband sitting in his office at the very far end of our hall. I'm usually busy in the kitchen - so, for convenience we yell thru the house...)

"I neeeeed you to do a picture of meeee and the new toooowel!"

"You want me to photograph you in that bath rooooom ruuuug???"

"It's a TOWEL and yes I neeeeeed a picture with the entire toooowel on it!"

"We dont't have enough rooooom to do a shot like that!"

"Then let's go to the fiiiield!"

"???..." "O.K - I have 10 minutes until the next call!"

'Hm - then I will pack the wool blanket as well' - thinks the foresighted Blogger...

And that's why you can see that flat land I'm living on again today...

Oh - by the way - the village observation alarm system is still working well - we were of course spotted and it was thought, we were shooting nude photos...

Isn't that hilarious? :)

Next post I will let you know about the knitted blanket No.2!

A Visit to...Anthropologie

Lucky you, if you live close to an Anthropologie store. As far as i know we have only one in Europe and that is in London - still far away from where i live in Germany...

So - whenever i have the change to see all their lovely things in real, nothing can stop me! Plus the sales staff of the Santa Barbara store is really sweet and invited me to shoot as many pictures as I wanted. Thank you!

Careful - here comes the flood...

And those cute grey white dotted sale pants went home with me!

.... to visit "Upstairs" with me!

You will find this nice shop in Montecito, the upscale neighborhood of Santa Barbara, which is home or at least second, third or fourth home to more or less famous people.

Upstairs is located above a fun clothing store, so you get to check out at least two great shops when you come out here...

But let's focus upstairs now:

I love to come here in the morning hours with enough time to wander thru their spacious rooms while it's still quiet.

The very friendly staff let's you roam free, which i always appreciate in this kind of shops, to discover all the great little and big goodies. If you need help, they are of course happy to assist you.

The shop is an eclectic mix from all over the world - esthetically decorated in an inspiring way.

It's a bit like traveling to different country's ... cozy throws from Peru, handmade items from Africa and much, much more...DID i already tell you, that i love traveling?

Back to my old home town Santa Barbara for a few weeks.

Well, what's new?

Not to much - i guess, and that's a good thing...the wonderful sun, the beautiful beaches, the ice-cold ocean, relaxed easy living...

Let's take a look then at some of my favorite places around town over the next weeks.

Are you ready for some more fruit and vegetable pics? Because I'll start with my deeply beloved farmers market!

Santa Barbara and it's neighbor cities Goleta and Montecito put on a farmers market in different locations on each day of the week!

Fantastic - I have been so grateful for it all those years we lived in Santa Barbara and basically never missed my 'market days'.

I have always been treated to the most wonderful, sun-kissed produce.

It's all fresh, local and mostly organic. If you are a regular at the market you get to personally know many of the farmers, which makes your shopping an even more fun event.

Sweet Summer

How are you doing? Are you enjoying summer's bounties?

Looks like this fabric yarn i showed you the last couple weeks will become my special summer project. The company that sells it was wondering if I would be interested in a bag full of left overs and remains of this material. In exchange I would share my creative ideas with them. Well - since I love to share creative ideas anyway I did not say no. Plus - I love surprises - so I hauled the heavy blue plastic surprise bag inside and excitedly opened it to see, what colors I got.

Mostly black and white and a few little scraps of beautiful soft prints. How wonderful because I really like the scandinavian style of black and whites with natural wood. So I had ideas popping up immediately: The first I am showing you today is a small but long crocheted seat cushion for a small bench. There is a special outdoor furniture set called "Biergartengarnitur" in Germany: it will cover the bench of that classic German beer garden set - an easy way to seat a crowd.

I crocheted the simplest pattern of a granny square and just like a true granny blanket these squares crocheted together can grow in any direction, i.e. 8 of them make a nice little rug you could take out to the doorsteps to watch the sun set.

This is one of my favorite childhood memories: Sitting on the front steps of the house watching garden and street winding down and getting quiet for the night while the birds sing their evening songs...

So sweet...

Spikes "au naturel"

What about this spike-hype?

Are you liking it?

Everywhere I look these days I see those protruding little hazards.

On jewlery, clothes ... even on shoes!

Always made of metal - always a bit threatening - always a teeny tiny bit funny.

To help with this kind of imbalance between danger and fun I thought I want to come up with my own version of this matter:

Voilá - Spikes au naturel!!!

Or in my husbands words: "Waldorfschool-Spikes"

I found this really cool fabric yarn and the bracelet tutorial (without spikes!!!) at Wollfactory. Just look at these fantastic available colors! Or those mottled ones! LOVE them all!

The little wooden cones came from my local crafts store. I just drilled two holes in each of them.

I followed the tutorial for the bracelet but changed the 3rd row where I crocheted evenly 5 holes over the length of the row to later tie the cones into these spaces. And then I added an additional 4th row. If you are a little bit familiar with crocheting you will figure it out even without the tutorial. It is really easy and simple.

AAAANNDDD?

I LOVE to peek into somebody else's living room for inspiration! What colors do they use, what furniture, decoration and style do they admire...

The living-community "SoLebIch" is a versatile and colorful interactive online magazine about living itself - but also gives me the chance to peek . Members of the free-of-charge community can post pictures and stories about their own homes, ask questions and exchange tips and advice.

To celebrate their recent shop opening, they invited bloggers to put together a wish-list with five items chosen from their wonderful pre-selected design collection - and of course I was happy to oblige!

To enjoy summers glory even more I went for the outdoorsy beauties: Oh how I wish to rest on that sun lounger under that spacious umbrella right now! The colorful beanbag can hold my book during frequent little naps I'm planning on and also instantly puts me in a good mood with it's fun colors even when the sun hides behind the clouds; the pink basket keeps treasures to make my day just perfect. And then?

Then I will do nothing but watch the pink fish dancing in the wind... Ahhhh...

New shoes in the house! Bought at this sale - I hadn't even heard about this fun Barcelona based company before!

Dolfies website is creatively done and the history tells a bit more about their great spirit.
